About Focus Research Program

Medical Physics and Nuclear Applications is an applied branch of physics that focuses on applying the principles, methods, and philosophy of physics in clinical practice and research, notably to support disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The overarching objective is to enhance the health status and welfare of the community. It is anticipated that this KBM will play a pivotal role in the advancement of physics, thereby contributing significantly to the development of the medical field.

Our Focus

BM Medical Physics and Nuclear Applications will play an active role in developing various aspects of physics related to health services. In general, Medical Physics can be classified into several subfields of specialization, namely:

  1. Radiotherapy Physics
  2. Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Physics
  3. Nuclear Medicine Imaging Physics

Graduates of this KBM are expected to become professional and competent medical physicists who can assist medical personnel-especially radiology doctors-in the aspects of measurement, optimization, and safety of the use of physics-based medical technology. Medical physicists are also responsible for ensuring the availability and feasibility of medical devices and supporting health workers in their application in healthcare facilities, especially hospitals.

Graduate Competencies:
Graduates of this KBM are prepared to become professional and skilled masters in optimizing various physics applications in the medical field, especially those related to nuclear radiation, X-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance, and lasers for imaging diagnostic purposes and medical therapy.

Research Focus:
Research in this KBM is focused on development in three main areas, namely:

  1. Dosimetry
  2. Medical Imaging
  3. Radiotherapy

These three research focuses are directed primarily towards treating and monitoring cancer patients. In its implementation, KBM Medical Physics and Nuclear Applications collaborates with radiology specialists at Zainoel Abidin General Hospital (RSUZA), Banda Aceh. This collaborative support enables the implementation of more applicable research that has a real impact on improving health service
