Professor of Optica
Prof. Dr. Syahrun Nur, S.Si., M.Si
Prof. Dr. Syahrun Nur, S.Si., M.Si., is a Professor in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), with research interests spanning optics, lasers and their applications, spectroscopy, photonics, vibrations and waves, and quantum mechanics. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), his Master’s degree in Optoelectronics from Universitas Indonesia (UI), and his Doctorate from the Graduate School of Engineering, Fukui University, Japan. He has held numerous academic leadership roles, including Vice Director for Academic and Student Affairs of the Graduate School of USK, Head of the Academic Senate of FMIPA, Secretary of the University Quality Assurance Board, Chairperson of the Institutional Accreditation (AIPT) team, Vice Dean for Collaboration, and Head and Secretary of the Physics Department. His recent research focuses on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for critical lithium mineral analysis in pegmatite rocks and hydrothermal fluids, pollutant detection in liquids using cellulose-based polyurethane adsorbents, and enhanced trace-element emission sensitivity using combined LIBS–laser-induced fluorescence (LIBS–LIF) techniques, in collaboration with partners such as the Maju Makmur Mandiri Research Centre in Jakarta and the University of Fukui. He has published on LIBS-based elemental and materials analysis, functional composite adsorbents, and photocatalytic materials, and is a member of the Indonesian Optical Society (Himpunan Optika Indonesia, HOI). Prof. Syahrun Nur teaches in both the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Physics at USK.
