Banda Aceh, November 26, 2024 – The Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Syiah Kuala University successfully organized the SIGMA (Student and Alumni Gathering) event on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The event at the Physics Department’s Block F Building served as a platform to strengthen bonds between students, faculty, and alumni. It was a significant milestone in the regeneration of alum leadership.

The event was attended by members of the academic community, including current students, faculty, and alumni from various graduating classes. The event began with an opening address by the Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Saumi Syahreza, S.Si., M.Si., who emphasized the importance of collaboration between alumni and the institution in supporting academic development and professional growth among students. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation to the entire organizing committee and participants for successfully hosting this event. “This gathering is not merely a social gathering but also a platform to strengthen the bonds of camaraderie among students, faculty, and alumni, which is expected to support our collective progress. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Brother Azharianto for his dedication, leadership, and extraordinary contributions during his tenure as Chair of the Physics Alumni Association (IAFI). May all his efforts and service serve as an inspiration for future leadership,” he said.
In addition to the election of the IAFI Chair, the event also featured a social gathering to introduce the interest groups (KBM) within the Physics Department to new students, as well as a shared lunch.
With the successful completion of this event, it is hoped that the relationship between students and alumni will grow even stronger, thereby creating a robust network to support the development of the Physics Department and the future careers of its graduates.

In addition to a social gathering and lunch, the event featured interactive discussions on the role of alumni in supporting academic and non-academic activities at the Physics Department. These discussions generated various constructive ideas to strengthen the network between alumni and students.

The highlight of the gathering was the General Assembly (Mubes) of the Physics Alumni Association (IAFI) to elect a new IAFI Chairperson. Following a democratic process of discussion and voting, Nasrol Adil, M.Si, an alumnus of the D3 Instrumentation and Computation (Inskom) program, class of 2000, was elected as the IAFI Chairperson for the 2024–2029 term.
Adista Amaliyah, S.Si, a 2000 graduate of the Bachelor of Physics program, was elected as Vice Chairperson. Meanwhile, Aulia Khalqillah, a 2013 graduate of the Bachelor of Physics program, was elected as IAFI Secretary General.
In his remarks, Nasrol Adil expressed his commitment to strengthening collaboration between alumni and students and supporting the advancement of the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) USK. The chair of the organizing committee, Dr. Edwar Iswardy, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., expressed appreciation for the active participation of all attendees and hoped that such activities could become a regular agenda item to strengthen the sense of community within the Physics Department.
