Banda Aceh, 6 February 2026 – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala (FMIPA USK) proudly shares inspiring news. Dek Rina, a high-achieving undergraduate student of the Physics Undergraduate Program (FMIPA USK), has successfully passed her bachelor’s final examination (thesis defense session) and is now eligible to graduate.
Dek Rina completed her degree through a special graduation scheme that allows students to undertake the final examination without submitting a conventional undergraduate thesis. This recognition was granted due to her outstanding achievement in developing a practical and impactful innovation: an instrument designed to help assess the purity and quality of patchouli oil.
Her instrument, named the “Density Meter Patchouli Oil,” was created to support quality testing of patchouli oil through density-based measurement, contributing to better quality control and standardization. This innovation has also earned Dek Rina a Simple Patent (Utility Model), which served as the key academic output supporting her graduation assessment.
Beyond her innovation, Dek Rina is widely known as an award-winning student, having secured multiple championships and honors at both national and international levels, bringing pride to the Physics Undergraduate Program and FMIPA USK in various competitions.
During the final examination held today, the board of examiners assessed her academic mastery, innovation impact, and contribution to applied science, concluding that her accomplishments meet and exceed the expected undergraduate research outcomes. As a result, Dek Rina was officially declared a Bachelor of Science graduate from the Physics Undergraduate Program, FMIPA USK.
The Department of Physics FMIPA USK extends its warmest congratulations and appreciation to Dek Rina, and hopes her innovation will continue to be developed and expanded for broader benefits, especially in supporting the patchouli oil industry, one of Indonesia’s valuable commodity sectors.
